COAL TOWNSHIP — Fortunata Jeanette Roma, 86, of Coal Township, passed away Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, at Serenity Gardens, in Kulpmont.
She was born in Shamokin, July 6, 1936, a daughter of the late Antonio and Mary (Rovito) Vivino.
She was a graduate of St. Edward’s Catholic schools.
On Sept. 5, 1955, in the former St. Edward’s Church, in Shamokin, she married Rocco J. Roma. Together they celebrated 65 years of marriage. Her husband preceded her in death Feb. 19, 2022.
She was a member of Mother Cabrini Church, in Shamokin.
For 39 years she was employed as a floor girl at the former Shroyer Dress Co., in Shamokin, until her retirement.
Forchy loved going to the beach and spending time with her sister, Rosemary, and her family. She loved to sew and would do many sewing favors for family and friends. She loved to sing and would know every word to a song, even at her age, as she went to her doctor visits. She also loved going out to eat and attending her family reunions, many of which she was the one “in charge.”
Fortunata, Forchy, or Toots, as she was affectionately known, had many close nieces and nephews.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, John “Doc” Dougherty, his son, Jeffery Dougherty and his wife, Stacy, and their son, Joshua; and many nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary (Vivino) Dougherty.
ROMA — Fortunata Jeanette Roma, 86, and Rocco Joseph Roma, 89, of Coal Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Mother Cabrini Church, Shamokin. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. The Stephen A. Chowka Funeral Home 114 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin, is assisting the family with arrangements.
